    Description

    A Rare and Unusual Find
Henry C. Gordon was chosen as an astronaut for the US Air Force
    Dyna-Soar Program
    in the early 1960's.
A little history about the program:
While the NASA manned space flight program was still in its infancy, the Air Force had already begun its own research program on the development of a manned multi-use orbiting space plane.
Development of what was called the X-20 began on January 1, 1958 with preliminary design studies undertaken by Boeing and the Martin Company.
In 1959 Boeing was selected as the prime contractor for the X-20, which was nicknamed “Dyna-Soar”, short for “dynamic soaring”.
Henry C. Gordon, a pilot for the USAF, was selected to be one of the 7 astronauts for this program in 1962.
He began training at the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
The Dyna-Soar program was cancelled in December 1963.
At that time, Gordon retired as an astronaut, but remained in the Air Force until retirement with the rank of Colonel.
The signed item is a USAF Recruiting Card from 1962.
The picture on the card is a space scene / astronaut in foreground with rockets launching in the background.
    DYNA-SOAR is printed on card.
Back of the card is signed: Henry C Gordon, Major, USAF, X-20
What a wonderful piece of history for a Space Collector!
One of my family members was an avid Space Program enthusiast.
This card was from their estate.
