    Description

Jack Leonard Swigert Jr. [1931 1982] was an American astronaut, aeronautical engineer, test pilot and United States Air Force pilot who served aboard the Apollo 13 mission. Swigert joined NASA in 1966 and was assigned as a member of Apollo 7's astronaut support crew. In 1970 Swigert was assigned as a late replacement for Ken Mattingly as command module pilot for the Apollo 13 moon mission along with commander James Lovell and lunar module pilot Fred Haise. The mission was forced to abort after a rupture of an oxygen tank and the crew along with mission control overcame numerous life threatening obstacles to return the crew safely to earth. Swigert was also the first to announce the now famous transmission ''Houston, we've had a problem''.
Listed for auction is a exceedingly rare WSS White Space Suit lithograph signed [not inscribed] by Jack Leonard Swigert Jr. Avid astronaut collectors are well aware of the rarity of this image, a recent non-inscribed example sold for over 12,000 dollar. This example is an original vintage lithograph released by NASA and the autograph is signed ''Best wishes Jack Swigert'' in black felt tip pen. The lithograph measures 8.00 x 10.00 inches, it is in overall fine condition with creasing along the top edge, approximately a 1/2 inch down from the white border. It does not effect or touch his image, otherwise it has retained its colors and will display very nicely. The autograph has been authenticated by Zarelli Space Authentication and will be accompanied with the above Letter of Authenticity. This is a desirable example, uninscribed, exceedingly rare to obtain like a Jim Irwin WSS NASA lithograph and is usually the ''last one needed'' to complete a WSS NASA lithograph collection. We have also listed a Jim Irwin Apollo 15 WSS lithograph along with the following Apollo mission crews, Apollo 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17, along with a nice collection of military, aviation and astronaut autographs.
