a very unique photograph that shows President John F. Kennedy presenting Shepard with the NASA Distinguished Service Medal in a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden on May 8, 1961, after Shepard became the first American to travel into space during the Mercury-Redstone 3 (Freedom 7) mission on May 5th, 1961
Shepard was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, the first American to travel into space, and later served as the commander of the Apollo 14 mission to the Moon
the photograph measures approximately 8 inches x 10 inches and was hand-signed by Shepard in the lower right hand corner
the photograph is in very good condition and Shepard's signature looks great
the backside of the photograph is blank
