    Astronaut Schmitt is one of only 12 human beings to walk on the moon when he he accompanied Gene Cernan on Apollo 17, the final NASA moon landing mission.  As a professional geologist, Schmitt is also the only scientist to visit another world.
    This lovely FDC commemorates the safe recovery of the Apollo 17 crew and capsule by the U.S. Navy and includes two stamps, one of which is the "First Man on the Moon" stamp honoring Apollo 11.
